Gavi, Monferrato, Langhe

Wedding photographer in the Langhe
and Piedmont wine country

Hills, vineyards and so much green: not far from Liguria, the landscape changes completely.

Couples write to me mostly about Monferrato and the Langhe around Alba, and I know the wine estates of Gavi and Alto Monferrato well. I’m Francesca Alberico, based in Genoa, and I photograph weddings across Liguria, Piedmont and Tuscany: for me, these hills are practically next door.

Why here

Why get married in
Piedmont

For the space and the hospitality. Venues in Piedmont are large, they often host both the ceremony and the reception, and they can welcome even very big weddings.

Weddings here are mostly outdoors, a little less formal than in Liguria, with a warmer welcome, often at family estates that make their own wine. Most couples are Italian, with a few destination weddings at the most refined venues.

The venues

Venues in
Piedmont

The venues I know best, where I’ve photographed the most weddings.

Gavi

Villa Sparina

Set among the hills and famous for its wine. Dinner in the indoor rooms, among the barrels, is one of the most striking moments. It’s the venue in the area most often chosen by couples from abroad for a destination wedding.

Gavi

La Meirana

An estate in the heart of Gavi, among the vineyards of an area famous for its wines. Sunset in the vines is the perfect time for couple portraits, before dinner.

Morsasco

Villa Delfini

Near Acqui Terme, with wide spaces surrounded by greenery. It’s an official outdoor venue for civil weddings, so the civil ceremony takes place right here, and the reception can be held outside or in the wine cellars. It’s run by a family of winemakers: beauty, simplicity and a warm welcome.

Monferrato

La Federica

A farm in the Monferrato countryside, perfect for a country wedding surrounded by nature.

Season and light

Your day in
Piedmont

The season runs from May to October, and ceremonies take place in the afternoon to avoid the hottest hours. After the ceremony there’s a cocktail hour of about two hours, followed by a dinner of two or three courses.

Before dinner we take half an hour for couple portraits: at sunset, among the vines, the light on the hills is the most beautiful of the day, and it’s your moment to breathe and enjoy a few minutes on your own.

Good to know

Space and heat

Parking isn’t an issue here and there’s little moving around, because everything often happens at a single venue. The large spaces also allow weddings with more than two hundred guests.

What you do need to plan for is the heat, which couples often underestimate: the early afternoon hours are tough in terms of light and temperature, so it’s best not to set the ceremony too early.

FAQ

Weddings in Piedmont

01. How far ahead should we book?

In Piedmont couples book about a year ahead, especially for weekends between May and October. I only take one wedding per date.

02. Can the ceremony and reception be in the same place?

Very often, yes: the venues are big enough to host the ceremony too, and Villa Delfini is an official outdoor venue for civil weddings. For a religious ceremony, allow ten to thirty minutes of travel.

03. What if it rains?

Every venue has a rain plan, either permanent or as needed, like the wine cellars at Villa Delfini or the barrel rooms at Villa Sparina. I always keep a clear umbrella in the car, and I’ve photographed weddings in every kind of weather.
