Beatrice and Matteo, a vineyard wedding at La Meirana, Gavi

La Meirana is an estate in the heart of Gavi, wine country, in a setting that says everything about Piedmont: hills, rows of vines, white gravel roads disappearing into the vineyards. This is where Beatrice and Matteo chose to celebrate their wedding.

Getting ready, among wooden beams, fireplaces and frames on the walls, had the calm pace of things done at home: cuffs fixed at the last minute, the groom’s friends in waistcoats raising a glass together. Then the religious ceremony in a small church, fans open against the heat, children on the steps and endless hugs on the way out.

At sunset we slipped away into the vineyards for portraits: it’s my favorite time on these hills, when the light turns soft and the heat finally gives you a break. In the evening, dinner in the courtyard under the lights and a party that swept everyone away, the couple included, lifted into the air by their friends.
